Get a World Cup Grilly on and score with your customers
There’s no better way for people to get together, supporting the same team and creating a great World Cup atmosphere than in the great British pub! And with England’s group matches falling on a Sunday and in the evening, pubs can boost their bottom line by pulling those extra pints and by scoring with customers with a Cinders barbecue. Make an even tastier afternoon or an evening of it by offering something not only for the footie die-hards but for their partners and the whole family too.
If England continue to pepper the goals (we hope!) like they did against Panama, with games against Belgium and beyond, take the ball and run with it landlords of the UK! Shoot to score with your customers, kick off the World Cup with a Cinders, and keep everyone happy with burgers and lashings of goalslaw (we really do apologise for that one!)
Buck the trend for people watching the games at home. Yes, the armchair may be comfortable and people may have the latest TV with a screen the size of the lounge wall to watch World Cup 2018, but pubs and landlords can help to bring fans, families and the community together by getting customers to watch the games together, waving flags, making a noise and celebrating as one!
There are no penalties for buying a Cinders, and it’s the best tackle on the pitch. So, if you really want to get the punters in and make it a game to remember, it’s time to call the whistle on those bags of boring crisps, time to get some top BBQ grub on, time to pass the relish and throw in some onions to make the perfect burger, and time to shout foul (yes, we went there!) as the chicken sizzles.
And if you fancy adding a bit of global flavour to the experience, making your customers dribble with delight, why not bring a bit of Panama to the pub garden by serving Panamanian garlic chicken straight from the grill.
Ingredients:
- Chicken, quartered
- Bay leaves
- Cloves of garlic, peeled
- Salt to taste
- Fresh orange juice
- Sherry vinegar
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Worcestershire sauce
- Ground allspice
Cooking:
Place chicken and bay leaves in a bowl. Purée garlic, salt, and water in a food processor to a smooth paste. Add juice, vinegar, black pepper, Worcestershire, and allspice; purée until smooth. Rub mixture over chicken. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours or up to overnight. Heat your BBQ to high. Remove chicken from marinade; grill on the hottest part of the grill, flipping once, until slightly charred and cooked through, 25-30 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of thigh reads 165°. If the outside starts to burn before the chicken is fully cooked, move to the cooler side of the grill until done.
Serve:
With rice, a nice fresh salad and avocado.
So remember, until the final whistle blows, on 15th of July in Russia, there’s no substitute for the great barbecue taste and atmosphere, so make sure you and your customers get a real kick out of the World Cup 2018 and that your pub will be in a league of its own with a Cinders barbecue.
